Thanks for posting Sören! I see the tag is perpendicular to the metacarpal bones of the index finger and thumb, rather than parallel. In the photo I can see it pushing up from under the skin when making a fist, which means there is more stress put on the glass tag when gripping things.
Had you considered parallel vs perpendicular placement before you did the procedure? Did you perform the scalpel cut yourself? Did you have friends available to assist? Thanks again for posting, and welcome to the forum! |

I saw on the net that all implant the chip like I do.
I think that is the best position because so it don't disturb when I move my hand. It is in the same position like my bones and the nature know how to do .I did it alone. At first I disinfekted my skin, the chip, my desk and the forceps. A bag with crached ice anaesthetized my skin and than the cut. After that I pushed the chip under the skin and put a patch on the wound. I hope my English isn't too bad. ![]() |

Hmm, I'm not sure what sites/videos on the net show a perpendicular orientation, but check this thread out;
http://www.rfidtoys.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=790&title=em4102-13mm-implantation Usually the best method is to place the glass tag parallel with the index finger bone. When I make a fist, my tag is not being pressed up through the skin. The concern of course is that the glass tag may crack or break if too much stress is put on it, and in situations where the hand is being used to tightly grip things, the risk of blunt force impact to that area of the hand may be greater. I would suggest to any future readers considering implantation they go with a parallel orientation. As for doing the procedure yourself, that's pretty cool. I've seen people doing it themselves with piercing needles and things, but a scalpel... you're probably the first I've heard of. - How did you know you were through the skin layer and not going any deeper? - Did you push the tag into the cut or did you pull the skin open a bit with forceps? - How did the ice work as a numbing agent? Was there pain during? Pain after? I have lots of questions! Also, your English is not bad at all :) |

Oh, I don't implant the chip in a 90° angle between the back of my hand and the chip.
I did it the in the way like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idlodc7RXs4 I don't had someone to hold my skin up so I needed a forcep. (Is the singular of forceps forcep or is forceps the singular?) If you inject the chip with a needle you need to hold the skin between two fingers. That's what the forceps do for me. I know it because muscular tissue looks different and I did it slowly and carefully. As the skin was gaping it was easy to push the chip with a small pressure between the skin an the muscle. I really don't feel something during the operation. The wound was closed after 1,5 days. At the third days I needed a little bite of ointment. But just because it was itching .Edited by Timmy - 17 November 2010 at 12:38pm |

Approximately parallel to the thumb-bone.
When I make a fist the mussels and the skin between the thumb and the forefinger bump up and the chip can be seen. |

Ahh yes, I'd say a safer position would be the area marked in blue, parallel to the index finger bone. Thanks for posting the pictures! I think this will help any future implantee position their tag.

Oh, I have no problems with this position.
Is it so bad? I don't want to change it. |

I don't think you need to change it. I would just suggest to anyone planning on getting a tag implanted to consider a position parallel to the index metacarpal bone.

Do you have your implants parallel to the index metacarpal bone?
