Just a quick question for you:
Where did you get your Philips HITAG S 2048 134KHz tag and what reader do you use with it? Thank you! Paul |

Hi Paul,
I got my tag from Sokymat as a sample. There are a couple readers I use with it. I have an older model Tec-Tus (http://www.tec-tus.com/rfid/tid_prod_reader.htm) and a Frosch reader (http://www.froschelectronics.com/hitag.htm). Amal ;) |

Hey Amal! So I have been looking into all of this for a few months now. I have a parallax reader in my car right now to control the locks and toggle the ignition. I use RFID cards currently but Im ready to make the switch to implant. I have everything thing I need. The implant and injector. A surgeon is putting it in. Do you have any additional comments or advise for me? Any side effects? Long term inconveniences? I would really appreciate it! Have your book by the way, good stuff! Im not ready to get into the 134KHz stuff yet, and neither is my wallet!
Thank you! |

I would make doubly sure that the 2x12mm implant will function properly with the parallax reader in your car. To test this, get a nice thick 1" thick cut of steak and insert the tag longways so the length of it runs parallel with the cut of the steak. Try to get it at least a half of an inch inside the steak as well, then do your tests. If all goes well, you should have no problems using a 2x12mm tag with the parallax reader.
An alternative test would be to lay out a tortilla and cover it with a thick layer of brown sugar. Then place the tag down on one end of the tortilla and roll it up. Cut the ends down to size so you've got about an inch to spare on either side of the tag, then tightly wrap it all in plastic wrap to keep it from coming apart on you. The brown sugar is a good analogue to human flesh and is used in RF lab tests where human bodies must be emulated. If the 2x12mm tag does not perform well, you might consider getting a 3x13mm tag... however the 3x13mm tag cannot be injected using an injector kit, it will require a scalpel cut. Since you're working with a surgeon and not a typical MD or family practice doctor, they should have no problem handling a scalpel. With the 3x13mm tag you should get slightly better read range, however there theoretically is a higher danger of crushing or damaging the glass casing with a larger glass tag sitting in your body. |

If it's not too late, may I add this:
MAKE SURE that the tag is in the orientation that you want it in immediately after surgery/injection. I used a piercing needle to put my own tag in and for some reason didn't consider the angle that the tag was at enough prior to implanting it. Now it's almost perpendicular (is that the right word? I wanted it parallel and it's the opposite almost) to the bones in my hand and I'm not a huge fan of it. It's also quite close (1 cm or so) from my index finger bone. While it's pretty settled in place and not apt to move very much, it still concerns me sometimes. Just make sure to orient it ASAP or have your doctor/surgeon orient it how you want. I think that this may be more of an issue with injection as opposed to a scalpel cut/insertion, as the path is determined for the most part by the angle and direction of the needle.
