Intel is trying to make sensors that don't need batteries, so they start with RFID.

Nice link, but their description sucks, mostly because they aren't explicitly stating transponder antenna or transceiver antenna, and they user "sensor" which isn't really descriptive. an RFID reader could be thought of as a sensor in that it "senses" tags. But they are talking about sensors as if they are tags. There are several tags on the market that have incorporated sensor functionality into tags (mostly temp). I have never seen a UHF tag with an MCU of any kind, especially not a 16-bit. These are, however prevalent in HF, as how else could they do the ellipitcal curve cryptography required for HF technology in passports. I will look into what is actually being done by IR and report back.
