Hi,
I new to RFID and currently performing a literature review for my dissertation project in RFID in Supply Chains. I have come across your book and keen to implement the smart shelf project you have discussed. Is there a specific evaluation kit you would recommend for this specific project such as the skyetek M2 development kit or am I better off buying the parts individually as you have specific in the book. I am not keen on playing with copper tape to create a resonant loop antenna so what can I purchase instead to remove this step and simply the project?? Thanks, Shane |

The one issue using the SkyeTek modules for a smart shelf application is that it's underpowered. You won't get decent range from the Fieg antenna listed in the book. Basically, unless the item has the tag on the bottom as it's sitting on the shelf, it won't reliably read.
This is a great article I've referenced before, but it's a really good into to shelf systems: http://www.rfidusa.com/superstore/index.php?cPath=85_87 I've not come across many commercial shelf systems because most are custom solutions, but there are a few places pushing their tech like Barcoding Inc. |
