hi i'm a senior student and my senior project is a device that detect lost items using RFID. i'm going to make a robot that go around a specific place to find lost items(glasses, flash memory, car key, etc). My problem is, i don't know what to use or what to choose because i don't have much information about RFID. I don't know what is the difference between anttena and reader. what will be the type that i will use in robot to dectect items in a range of 1 meter*1 meter and what will be the type i use as tag in lost items. could you please help me in that.. another thing: how can i get your book(RFID toys)? it is available in middle east?(arabian gulf). with many thanks.

What kinds of items will you be tagging?
If you want to stay passive, you will definitely need to use HF or maybe even UHF to detect the tags. If this is just a project and not a real use scenario, you might consider an active solution. It won't be as elegant, but it will be cheaper than buying a high power HF/UHF reader, and ultimately easier to chop down the antenna length to reduce range than it would be to try to get 1 meter out of an HF passive system. |
