I was reading the chapter about the smart shelf and was able to follow the antenna design section (mostly), but one question still remains. How will I know what the read distance is of the antenna?
I want to build a small antenna with a very short read range (1-2cm), but I'm a bit confused as to how to approximate what the range of the antenna will be. Edited by Hoov - 31 March 2008 at 4:45pm |

To be honest, I don't have a straight up answer for how to calculate range of an antenna. It has to do with physical size of the antenna, how well it's tuned to resonate, how much current is flowing through the antenna, and how large the antennas are on your tags. I'm wondering... why do you only want a 1cm to 2cm read range? |

I'm building a tray that will pass over several items within close proximity to each other, so the smaller the read range the better. :)

Do you only want to read one tag at a time? Does your project have to do with positioning or position sensing?
