Let me start by saying my skill set is primarily in software, but I think this technology could work for me. I have a project that I am thinking about implementing and would love some feedback.  I would like to make a game using Children’s Big Wheel Trikes.  If you have ever played the Wii Resort game “Dog Fight”  you would get the idea.  Each trike would have 25 points to start and the game would be on a 3 minute timer. Each big wheel would have a Nerf shooter that would subtract a point from an opponent when it hits a target on the trike. Secondly points can be added to a trike by rolling over objects that will add a point.  The trike with the most points after 3 minutes wins.  Can RFID do this? I assume UHF and active tags would be needed as there are distance issues.  I know the Nerf Balls, Rollover objects and Trikes would need tags but beyond that I am open to architecture suggestions. Thanks!

The idea of adding points when a trike rolls over a tag is not hard at all, but being able to detect a Nerf hit on a person/trike and not the ground or other object will be difficult at best... or very very expensive at worst.

Take the nerf aspect out of it and just make the racers hit checkpoints for points or time or whatever and you've got yourself a game that's easy and cheap to create. You could make certain checkpoints only work for the first player to reach it, and the rest work for all. You could make it so players would have to get to certain checkpoints in a certain amount of time, or you could make it a free-for-all.

Make readers on trikes with xbee modules to report back data to a central scoring system, and put lights on towers over the checkpoints that can flash when a player gets points or goes out when the first player gets a "first player only" checkpoint.

This sounds like fun!
